Sara Cancelliere, Sogni di un viaggio (Dreams of a Journey), 2022

My name is Sara Cancelliere and I am a student at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, Italy. I live in Turin, I am 18 years old and I have a great passion for painting, sculpture, poetry, music and everything related to the artistic world. For me, art is not only a universal language but also the best way to express myself.

I made this work a year ago for a contest on the topic of self-representation. I decided to work on the theme of “the journey,” one of my biggest dreams. Not only a physical journey but also an inner, emotional journey. The work represents a dream but is also a symbol of the unconscious. I placed three masks made of plaster inside an old suitcase, painted and repainted by hand. The three faces are self-portraits, I created them by making a mould of my face. I then added a sheet of glass painted with special enamel to remind me of the sea, a symbol of light-heartedness and harmony.
